Title: Shige desu!!
Author: [livejournal.com profile] whatxsarahxsaid
Fandom/Group: Johnny's Entertainment/NEWS
Pairings: A bit of Ryo/Tegoshi
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Alas, they are all owned by Johnny and I am in no way associated with him (though I'm thinking of disguising myself as a boy and infiltrating JE), and I'm not making any money in this work of fiction. The restaurant isn't even mine (though it's slightly different)!
Warnings: None.
Summary: Prompt #60: 5 times Shige got mistaken for Tegoshi.
Authors Notes: This was written for the wonderful Shige-Thon because Shige is all shades of awesome. Beta'ed by [livejournal.com profile] woyaoni, all other mistakes are mine. Please enjoy, don't laugh (unless you're meant to because the situation is amusing to you), and comments are love but unnecessary (but I'll love you forever).

1.

Backstage, heat swirled around bodies that ran back and forth, readying costume for the costume changes, placing bottles of water in easily accessible areas, random pieces of paperwork, and other various items that would be needed by NEWS and staff members throughout the concert. Shige ran a hand across his forehead, wiping the beginnings of sweat that threatened to form.

He made his way to a chair and fell into it, bouncing his legs against the ground in a familiar and comfortable motion. Excitement was slowly creeping into his body, making his bones and skin jittery, as though he had just sprinted a mile. He had a five minute standby before Koyama came over, tightly grabbing his hand and pulling him over to the rest of NEWS. Yamapi gathered them into the familiar huddle and began his pre-show pep-talk. They each uttered words of assurance to one another and wished everyone to do their best. They were all grinning and laughing as they broke up and made their way towards the doors that lead to the concert hall.

They lined up together, waiting to go on stage where they would form a circle around the stage for their introductions. Shige could hear the thunderous voices from the audience, all chanting for NEWS to take the stage. Despite the number of times he had performed, his still stomach fluttered with an anxiety that he didn't mind so much since it was mixed with that indescribable feeling of immense joy through the chance of performing before a live audience once more.

The stage managers gave the thumbs up; the lights were slowly diminished to darkness and Shige and the rest of NEWS ran on stage, forming a circle around the perimeter. Plans had been formed so that each member would be introduced individually when their names were announced over the speakers and so he stood, waiting with abated breath. Following the call of Yamapi's name would be Ryo, Tegoshi, Massu, and then himself. He couldn't see much of anything, other than the spotlight that was currently on Ryo, and the other members, who were glowing slightly with dimmed lights illuminating their still forms.

He watched Ryo finish his introduction and then he heard: "Yuya Tegoshi!" and the spotlight was suddenly glaring in his face and screams magnified, yelling "Tegoshi~". Time seemed to freeze and his mind went blank. He felt like a deer caught in the headlights in the middle of the road. Gaining some of his awareness back, he could see the rest of NEWS looking confused while Tegoshi seemed to be torn between amusement and annoyance, but laughter won in the end and Shige saw him double over in laughter.

Another moment passed, filled with awkward silence, another shout of "Yuya Tegoshi" was heard over the speakers, and the light seemed to burn brighter as Shige did the only thing he could remember. He placed his hand in front of his face, palm facing outward, and shouted into the microphone, "Tegoshi desu. Ganbarimasu."

2.

Two weeks after the concert, the 'incident' as Koyama had termed it, was fully out of their minds. This was mainly due to Shige forbidding anyone from mentioning it. Tegoshi had been a little put out over this, however.

"Nee, you don't want to be me?" Tegoshi's 'kicked-puppy-dog-eyes' filled Shige with strange guilt as if he had staged the whole incident and was taking pleasure in making Tegoshi sad. He felt a headache coming on.

"That's not it," Shige had replied, massaging his temples. "I want to be me. Recognized as me. You understand?"

Tegoshi's face lit up into a brilliant smile and he nodded. "Of course! Though, I'd rather be me than anyone else, no matter who I was."

Shige groaned. So he remained quiet and just nodded along and shooed Tegoshi away, claiming he had work to do.

It took a lot of time and effort, but Shige had managed to force it out of his mind. It wasn't like it was something that was totally out of the ordinary. He was constantly mistaken for Tegoshi. Despite this, he did wish management at least was able to get them straight.

During one lunch break in the NEWS rehearsal room, Shige had settled down with a textbook and a notebook to take notes on it for his class, while everyone else flopped on chairs with ease The only one missing was Ryo, who claimed over ten minutes ago that he had something to take care of and would be right back while staring pointedly at an oblivious Tegoshi who sat by Massu, dangerously close to finishing the large, diminishing lunch on the table before Yamapi yelled over to Shige.

"Shige, go find Ryo!"

Shige mumble about why he was forced to go look for him while everyone else wasn't doing anything, while he himself was doing something important. Yamapi stared at him, shrugged and said, "You've already eaten."

Still grumbling, Shige walked out of the doors and made his way down the corridor.

"If I was Ryo, where would I be?" he muttered to himself as he dragged his hand across the wall while he walked towards the elevator.

He barely noticed the slightly opened closet door and Ryo's face peering through the crack before his hand was grabbed and he was harshly pulled into the dark closet.

The door slammed shut behind him and he was forced against a wall. He gasped slightly as his head connected with a utility shelf, and he ducked his head to stop it from hitting against it again.

"Took you long enough," Ryo whispered from somewhere in front of him in the darkness.

Shige barely had time to gather breath to ask a question before soft, warm, and demanding lips found his. Hands which had been around his arm slowly made their way to his shoulder and back before Ryo moved to deepen the kiss. Even though Shige was loath to admit it, he was beginning to enjoy the kiss, but as soon as Ryo's tongue had found his way into Shige's mouth, he bit down rather harshly before he tried to push Ryo away.

"What the hell, Tego-nyan?" Ryo roughly, trying to grab onto one of Shige's failing arms.

Shige growled lightly and opened the door and fled from the closet. Flustered, he had to try three times before he was able to open the door to their room and run back to his chair before he threw open his book and pushed it in front of his face. Moments later the door slammed open and Ryo stalked in, aiming for Tegoshi, who was still at the lunch table, chatting away happily with Koyama.

"You!" he said, stopping in front of Tegoshi's chair.

"Me?" Tegoshi said, beaming up at Ryo. Shige glanced over the top of his book and saw Ryo falter slightly at the intensity and innocence that radiated from Tegoshi's smile.

"Just...don't do that again," said Ryo, sitting down and grabbing a pair of chopsticks before randomly piling food onto a plate.

"Hai!" Tegoshi nodded, confused but unperturbed. He was always doing things that annoyed people, but he knew they weren't too annoyed or they would really do something about it.

"Why's Shige's book upside-down?"

3.

'A day out will be good for you,' Koyama had told him earlier that morning and Shige was already wishing he had stayed at home. Instead, Tegoshi and Massu had dragged him out for a day of shopping and 'fun' as they had termed it. Shige didn't really know which part of this day was supposed to be fun—the part where he stood around while Massu debated over a red shirt with white stripes, or a red shirt with dark red stripes for fifteen minutes, or the part where Tegoshi had cooed and awed at the Christmas decorations that lined the shops and streets and insisted on taking pictures of nearly everything, or the part where they forced Shige into bright yellow pants that made him look like a duck, but they insisted looked excellent on him, and it was the newest fashion to stand out like the sun. Shige did suppose he was having more fun that he would have been had he stayed home, alone, on their day off. At least they were going to feed him. And Tegoshi and Massu were fun to be around. Their laughter and optimism was oddly contagious, and Shige found himself laughing at Massu's weird jokes and Tegoshi's random comments about the patrons around them.

Shige managed to escape the pair for almost ten minutes in a large clothing store. Wandering around aimlessly down aisle after aisle and running his hands along the soft fabric of shirts and slacks, Shige was beginning to actually miss the chatter of Tegoshi and Massu. He barely had time to think of being lonely because just as he was about to pick up a pair of khaki pants, Tegoshi popped around the corner and grabbed his hand.

"Come on! We're going to go get lunch now. You're done, right?" he said, all the while pulling Shige out of the clothing shop.

As if I have a choice, he thought as he was dragged through the congested city streets towards where Massu was seating on a wooden bench, crowded with all their bags, nodding politely as shoppers walked by him. As he saw Tegoshi and Shige come closer, he stood up, dimples creasing in a giant grin.

"Can we eat now?" Tegoshi nodded happily before skipping off in a direction, with Shige and Massu grabbing the bags from the bench and hurrying along after him.

Tegoshi found a small Korean restaurant on the more off-beaten path. Shige sighed happily as he placed the bags down beside the chair closest to the wall and sat down, glad to give his feet a rest for the first time in so long. He felt, more than saw, Tegoshi gracefully throw himself into the chair beside him as Massu settled down across from Shige. He glanced around the restaurant. It had a very comfortable atmosphere, one which made you feel instantly like you walked into someone's dining room and adjacent kitchen. The menu was pasted on the red walls, along with water painted pictures of various landscapes.

"What are you going to get?" Massu asked, jolting Shige out of his observations of the restaurant.

Shige glanced at the wall again, taking in what was offered. "You're treating, right?"

"Massu is treating both of us!" Tegoshi piped up. "I want that," he said, pointing at the wall.

"Want what? And don't point, it's rude," Shige said, grabbing his hand.

"Bulgogi."

Shige looked at the picture of bulgogi on the wall. "You know, I think that's what I'm going to get, too."

Tegoshi grinned beside him, proud that he had influenced Shige. He looked across the table at Massu and Shige could almost see the invisible thought-waves urging Massu to follow suit and order bulgogi with them.

Massu hummed to himself as he surveyed the menu, oblivious to Tegoshi's stare. "I'm going to get bulgogi." Tegoshi sat back, pleased with himself that his mind powers had served him well once again.

Several minutes passed before a tiny old Korean woman, presumably the owner, hobbled out of the back kitchen and made her way to their table.

"Hello, dearies. Are you ready to order?"

Once Massu had given her their orders, the woman nodded and motioned for them to get their bottled water out of the refrigerator in the corner, and chopsticks from the table near the counter. Tegoshi and Massu both looked at Shige, giving him identical stares. He sighed and got up to gather their things, mumbling to himself about broken legs.

It didn't take long for their meals to arrive, steaming hot and exuding wonderful aromas that had Shige's stomach growling embarrassingly. Along with the bulgogi, they were served with rice, kimchi, and daikon. Shige poked at the kimchi with apprehension and wondered why Koreans always had kimchi with their meals. Despite his misgivings with the kimchi, he found it delicious, if not incredibly spicy, causing him to shove mouthfuls of rice into his mouth quickly to cooled the fire on his tongue. Massu snorted with laughter as beats of sweat formed on Shige's forehead.

Shige and Massu quickly finished their meal, while Tegoshi ate a bit more slowly. Before long their table had been cleared and Massu went to the counter to pay their bill. Shige gathered the bags while Tegoshi stretched and put on his jacket, hat and scarf.

"Ready?" Massu asked, taking a couple bags from Shige.

"Yep!" Tegoshi said, heading for the door. "That was so good. We have to come back to this place."

"I agree," Shige added. "I'm not really a big fan of kimchi, but something about it there was oddly good."

Massu nodded. "Where to now?"

Stopping in the middle of the street, Tegoshi paused and looked thoughtful as he considered where else he had to go. "I only have a few more things to pick up....Hey! Let's go get some ishiyaki imo!" Tegoshi and Massu took off towards the sweet potato vendor, leaving Shige calling after them.

"You just finished eating!" But his voice was lost in the crowd and he was left standing alone, talking to himself.

Suddenly a wizened voice reached his ears.

"Sir! Young sir!" Shige turned around and saw the old Korean woman making her way towards him as fast as she could, waving something in her hand.

He walked the rest of the way towards her. "Ma'am?"

She gently patted his arm. "My dear boy, you dropped your wallet in my restaurant."

Shige's hand automatically reached back to check his back pocket and found his wallet was still there. "Ma'am, I don't think - " he began.

Patting his arm again, she smiled up at him and opened the wallet. Shige groaned inside as Tegoshi's beaming face looked at him from his driver's license's photo. Pointing at the photo, she said, "This is a lovely photo of you. The camera must really love you." She looked at him and squinted. "You should have kept your hair long, though." She smiled and patted his arm again before handing over the wallet and walking away, saying he should be more careful in the future over her shoulder.

He stood in the middle of the street, people moving out of their way to avoid hitting him, as he stared at the wallet in his hand. Closing it gently, he walked towards where Tegoshi and Massu had run off. He found them nibbling away at a baked sweet potato each.

"Shige," Massu began, "Tegoshi lost -"

Shige walked up to Tegoshi and thrust his wallet under his nose. He suddenly found himself in an enormous hug.

"Thank you!!" Tegoshi cried and Shige's irritation level went down a few notches as he patted him on the head awkwardly.

"Just...be more careful in the future."

4.

The cold winter air stung Shige's face as he quickly walked down the sidewalk towards the train station. Glancing at his watch, he saw he only had a handful of minutes before his train was to arrive. He quickened his pace, tightened the scarf around his neck and shoved his hands into his pockets to protect them from the cold.

Racing into the station, he saw that he had made good time during his sprint into the station and actually had a couple minutes to spare. Looking around, he found a place by the wall to lean against while he waited for the train. He opened his bag and pulled out a book to help pass the time.

He had just managed to find his place in the book when the train pulled up to the platform and people started piling into the train. He waited patiently in line, allowing people in front of him as a gesture of good manners before stepping on to the train himself. Finding a small corner near the door, he grasped the pole as the train pulled out of the station and drew them closer to their destination. The swaying motion of the train was too much to read against, so Shige opted to look out the window at the city rapidly passing him by.

Suddenly he felt his neck prickle and he had the distinct feeling he was being watched. He tore his eyes from the window and glanced around the car before settling on a young girl standing halfway down the car from him. She smiled shyly before averting her eyes, a blush creeping on to her pale cheeks. Shige laughed to himself and looked back out of the window.

He noticed the girl look at him every time she thought he couldn't see her. After two more stops, he saw her muster up her courage and walk slowly towards him, almost as if some invisible hand were trying to force her back. Pretending he didn't see her, he continued to look out of the window, figuring she would lose her courage if he blatantly watched her come up to him.

He felt the girl stand a couple feet from him before he turned to look at her. Blinking, she closed the space between them.

"Um...are you in NEWS?" she squeaked.

"Yep," he said, beaming at her.

She flushed deep red. "I think you're brilliant! You have a wonderful voice, and are so cute and sweet. You're my favorite, Tegoshi-san," she sputtered. Shige had to forcefully keep the smile plastered to his face.

Of course. I knew it. He didn't have the heart to tell her that she had mistaken her favorite member with himself. It was obvious she was shy and had taken all of her courage to come up to him. It would break her heart and probably kill her with the amount of embarrassment she would suffer.

"Oh? Well, that makes me very happy, then!" Shige exclaimed, trying to put as much energy and 'cuteness' Tegoshi oozed naturally. "Please continue to support me!"

She grinned and nodded, stalling and fidgeting with the hem of her jacket. "Would you mind if I hugged you? Only, it's just, I would ask for an autograph, but I don't have any paper," she said all very quickly.

Shige smiled. "It would be my pleasure," he said and wrapped his arms around her, squeezing her gently in a warm embrace.

The girl squeaked happily, thanking him until her stop, which happened to be the next one. "Good luck with everything," she said before stepping off the train. Shige waved as she walked away before slumping against the wall of the train.

I should just change my name to Tegoshi and see where that takes me.

5.

Shige walked through the doors of NEWS's practice room and saw he was the first one to arrive that morning. It was a little eerie to be in the large room by himself, but he dropped his bag in a chair and pulled out his textbook and iPod.

Might as well get some studying done while it's quiet.

As he put the book on the table he noticed there was a photo next to a large stack of papers that had been haphazardly thrown down at the end of table. Glancing over the papers, he found they were some of his school papers he had mistakenly left there the day before. He picked up the photograph and raised his eyebrow as he glanced over it. The photo was taken in a dressing room during some concert. He was settled on the couch, squashed between Ryo and Yamapi. Yamapi looked as if he was in the middle of saying something, for his hands were in the air as if gesturing something. He was laughing and Ryo was scowling, but he could see he wasn't all that upset. Ryo's eyes were focused on Shige's face, but there was something gleaming there he couldn't quite place. Shige wracked his brain, but couldn't remember the photo being taken. Putting the photo back down on the table, he walked over to an adjacent chair and threw himself down. Maybe he was going crazy.

Several minutes later the door slammed open and Koyama waltzed in, swinging his practice bag so widely he nearly knocked over a chair near the door.

"Good morning, Shige!" he exclaimed.

"What's this?" Koyama said, placing his bag on the table and picking up the photo.

"I don't know. I don't remember taking it."

"Ah," Koyama cried, tapping the photo with his finger. "I took this! I think you and Massu were off grabbing lunch. Look how cute Tegoshi looks in this." He shoved the photo under Shige's nose.

Yes, I'm going crazy, he thought. He groaned loudly and slumped down in his chair. Distantly he heard Koyama asking what was the matter as he thought which would look better on him: bright blonde hair or bald.

I'd feel sorry for Shige in this if I wasn't way too amused by it. Somehow I don't think Shige's voice would fit the whole "Tegoshi desu~" thing XD

or the part where they forced Shige into bright yellow pants that made him look like a duck, but they insisted looked excellent on him, and it was the newest fashion to stand out like the sun
LOLLLLLLL. XD

Haha, thank you. ;) I still feel sorry for him, even though it is rather funny people mistake him often. I don't think it'd fit, either, but it sure is funny to imagine, I think. LOL
